12 Things to do in May
Out and About
- Visit the UK’s most famous and long-standing flower parade at Spalding on Saturday 5 May, where you’ll see the most spectacular tulip decorated flower floats on the theme Food Glorious Food, complete with marching bands, street entertainers and dancers.
- At the same time, you could drive round the famous tulip fields.

- Take the family to the Househam Sprayers Lincolnshire Young Farmer’s Rally and Countryside Day at Market Rasen Racecourse on 19th May. A fun filled day where young farmers from 16 county clubs compete in over 60 competitions – from trailer backing, pillow fights to tug of war – to become rally championships. Have a go at laser clay shooting, driving a tractor or the mini digger challenge.
- From 24 May, Peterborough Cathedral is presenting a major arts exhibition: Reflection – looking beneath the surface.
- Enjoy a day out at the races at The QIPCO Guineas festival on 5-6 May at Newmarket.
- Book the children into the Sunday run Kid’s Club at Tallington Lakes where they can learn to waterski, wakeboard or knee board.

Village Life
- Continue to fertilise fields and gardens and spray off ragwort rosettes, but wait for a dry day!

- Chickens will be broody by now so it could be a good month to start putting fertislised eggs under them if you are wanting chicks by June.
- Keep on top of the weeding and mowing, weather permitting!
- Plant summer bedding plants.
- Check and mend fencing in paddocks and fields .
- The grass tends to come in quickly at this time of the year. For those with ponies, section off parts to prevent laminitis.
